Abstract:

We demonstrate ultrahigh speed Swept Source / Fourier domain OCT imaging with new MEMS- tunable vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) light source technology. The VCSEL achieves a combination of ultrahigh sweep speeds, adjustable sweep rates and extremely long coherence length, which cannot be simultaneously achieved with other OCT light source technologies. Although micromechanically-tunable VCSELs have been previously investigated, these results are the first to achieve ultrahigh tuning speeds in conjunction with a ~2X wider tuning bandwidth than previous VCSELs. We demonstrate OCT with record imaging ranges at sweep rates from 100kHz to 1MHz.
